Rock "N" Rideland
Rock n Rideland is a concept piece of an amusement park. My idea in creating this artwork was to have a place to go and be able play musical instruments, thus the first word in the title, “Rock”. The second word, “Rideland”, is my idea of the ultimate amusement park ride, you get to fly.
I have always enjoyed listening to music but never had any talent for it. So I came up with a theory on how I could play musical instruments. I figured that the instruments at Rock n Rideland would have micro chips in them. While you are holding the instrument it sends electro-magnetic pulses to tell your brain how to play. The programs in the chips would have songs for that instrument from a particular artist. An electric guitar might have songs programmed in it for Jimmy Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen. When you picked up that guitar you would then be able to play like the artist named on the guitar. Whose ever name was on whatever instrument you were using you could then play their music. Imagine holding a saxophone with Kenny G’s name on it and being able to play as well as he does. As well, the music is only heard by the player of that instrument. On the right side of the artwork is a two story piano. People who want to play the piano would put on one of the pairs of shoes that are in the pile on the first floor. The soles in the shoes are what enable the person to play. Some people are holding microphones and drums sticks which work using the same technology.
The ride at Rock n Rideland enables you to fly. When you enter the ride you grab a parachute pack by the handle. When you take hold of the handle it attaches itself to your hand until your ride is over, it holds on to you, you don‘t hold on to it. The handle works on the same principles as the musical instruments and enables you fly through the ride. You will notice riders flying from tube to tube. The tubes emit a positive electro-magnetic charge. The handle the rider holds sends out a negative electro-magnetic charge. This allows the rider to travel through the tubes without ever touching them. The parachute handle can guide you through the ride or you can guide yourself. You can ride as long as you like. If the rider wants they can be hurled thousands of feet into the air and then parachute back down to another tube. Right before the parachuter enters a tube the handle releases the rider. The rider can then exit the ride or grab another parachute handle and continue their ride. The expelled parachute is pulled into an adjacent tube as illustrated in the middle of the park. For me, flying would be the ultimate thrill ride.
